25 Billion Apple Apps download Winner

By: David Leach

Apple hit 25 billion app downloads as of Friday evening (3/2/2012) around 10:45pm (roughly). If you were tediously watching the ticker (which was NOT accurate) then you were probably also downloading apps like I was around the same time. The ticker I noticed was not remotely accurate, my iphone 4s on 3g was reporting the ticker at 24,998,805,xxx, while at the exact same time my ipad 2 on wifi was reporting 24,998,910,xxx, while my fiance’s iphone 4s on wifi was reporting 24,998,890,xxx. According to the rules, you were eligible for up to 25 downloads that could possibly trigger you for the “25 billionth app download winner” which would have entitled you to a $10,000 apple app store gift card. During the last 30 minutes or so, the Apple app store could be seen buckling under the massive traffic, images were loading slow and apps were downloading even slower. The winner has yet to be announced, but I imagine that they will probably be either calling the individual over the weekend, or will just be posting the winners information (name of course) on the Apple website. As soon as we hear who it was we will be sure to DDOS, congratulate him or her and post the 25 billion Apple app download winner ‘s name here.

If I win, we’ll simply open up a full time app review department at FailedExE with the most authoritative Apple app coverage database you can find on the web…how you like dem apples?

Update

Well unfortunately I didn’t win, the lucky prize went to Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China, who wins a $10,000 iTunes gift card for downloading a free version of the ‘Where’s My Water?‘ app. Now call me crazy but doesn’t it seem like a marketing ploy to satisfy the new Chinese Apple lovers? I mean how good would it look to other countries if the winner was based in the US? A little biased? I think so.
